Our Power Plant Sites: Case Studies
Progress Energy Carolinas
Roxboro Generating Station
North Carolina
The Roxboro Generating Station consists of 4 units, with total capacity of approximately 2,550 MW. The plant installed low NOx burners in 1999. The first separator at Roxboro was installed in 1997, and a second separator was added in 1998.
ProAsh® from Roxboro is marketed and sold to the concrete industry in Virginia and North Carolina.
Constellation Energy Group
Brandon Shores Station
Maryland
Constellation Energy Group’s Brandon Shores Power Station consists of two 650-megawatt pulverized coal boilers. In the late 1990’s Constellation chose our electrostatic separation process to process Brandon Shore’s high LOI fly ash. Separation Technologies has been processing fly ash at Brandon Shores since 1999, and selling branded ProAsh® throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
Scottish Power
Longannet Station
Kincardine-on-Forth, Scotland
Scottish Power’s Longannet Power Station is the second largest coal-fired power station in the UK and one of the largest in Europe; it has installed capacity of four 600 MW units.
Separation Technologies is supplying its carbon separation technology at Longannet Station to ScotAsh — a joint venture of Scottish Power and Lafarge — under a long-term technology licensing and support agreement to process fly ash that meets British standards (BS 3892 Part 1). ScotAsh selected Separation Technologies separation process, after extensive evaluation and analysis of all available ash processing technologies.
JEA
St. Johns River Power Park
Jacksonville, Florida
The St. Johns River Power Park is comprised of two units generating a total of 1360 MW. Separation Technologies constructed a new processing facility here for fly ash carbon separation as well as a facility for ammonia removal. The project was completed in May 2003. One separator was installed in May 2003 and a second was installed and began operation in May 2004.
Southern Mississippi Electric Power Association (SMEPA)
RD Morrow Plant
Hattiesburg, Mississippi
As part of a rural electric cooperative this plant has a maximum capacity of 400 MW generation from bituminous coal. The power is transmitted to its member distribution cooperatives throughout Mississippi. The fly ash beneficiation process at SMEPA includes Carbon Return, in which the high carbon ash is returned to the boilers to further increase combustion efficiencies and eliminate waste.
New Brunswick Power
Belledune Plant
Belledune New Brunswick, Canada
NBP Belledune plant produces 450 MW for the Altantic Province of Belledune from a blend of petcoke and bituminous coal. Fly ash operations began in January 2005 with Carbon Return also a feature of this project. ProAsh® manufactured at this facility meets CSA 3000 standards.
RWE Innogy
Didcot Station
United Kingdom
Located on the eastern shore of the UK, this plant's production capacity is 2,000MW
PPL
Brunner Island Station
Pennsylvania
As our newest facility located near Harrisburg, PA, this plant is currently processing and shipping ProAsh® to markets throughout the northeastern states. The installation of the second separation unit to accommodate the 1400MW coal-fired generation system is underway.
Tampa Electric Power Company
Big Bend
Florida
Scheduled to open Fall of 2007, this operation will include three separators and integrate our unique ammonia removal system.
