Who We Are

ProAsh® Quality Control Plan

Separation System Process Control
Quality control assuring production of low LOI fly ash

  • Processed ash specification
    • 2.5% maximum LOI
    • Controlled Foam Index
  • Testing Frequency
    • Max. 30 minutes processing time / 20 tons of product ash
    • Separation process adjusted as needed to maintain product LOI target to <2.3%
    • LOI target lowered if Foam Index changes significantly - maintain air entrainment effects
  • Testing Method
    • "Quick" LOI Test - Agreement to ASTM C311 method +/- 0.1%
    • Quantitative Foam Index Test - Assessment of air entrainment admixture demand

Shipment Quality Control
Truck and railcar samples assuring shipment quality

  • ASTM Specification C 618 / AASHTO Specification M 295
  • ASTM Specification C 311 Table 1: Minimum Sampling and Testing Frequency
    • Moisture Content, LOI, Fineness - Daily or each 400 tons shipped
  • All other tests in ASTM Specification C618
    • Monthly or each 3200 tons shipped based on composite sample of all daily tests
  • Additional testing which exceeds ASTM / DOT requirements
    • Samples obtained from every shipment load and retained for a minimum of 60 days
    • LOI test on minimum of each fourth shipment load
    • Foam Index test on minimum of each fourth shipment load
    • Specific customer requested testing

Technical Service Testing
Testing conducted at our Technical Center in Needham, MA

  • Training of production site personnel
  • Periodic verification of Quality Control testing at production facilities
  • Wet mortar testing
    • Flow properties, mortar air, water requirements
    • Determine affects of cement sources and admixtures
  • Detialed particle size distribution
  • Fly ash pH
  • Fly ash ammonia content
  • Evaluation of air entrainment principles
    • Foam Index with multiple surfactants and commercial admixtures
    • Methylene blue adsorption evaluation of carbon activity
  • Other testing as needed to evaluate ash quality and diagnose customer concerns
